சூரிய வெளிச்சம், காற்று போன்றவற்றை தேவையான அளவு வீட்டிற்குள் கொண்டு வருவதே வாஸ்து சாஸ்திரத்தின் அடிப்படையாக இருந்து வந்திருக்கிறது. அதையே வாஸ்து பகவான் தன் தலையை ஈசான்ய மூலையிலும் (வடகிழக்கு), கால் பகுதியை கன்னி மூலையிலும் (தென் மேற்கு) வைத்து குறுக்காக படுத்திருப்பதாக கூறி ஒரு வரைமுறைகளை வகுத்து பின்படுத்த அறிவுறுத்தினர்.
தென்கிழக்குத் திசை என்பது கிழக்கும் தெற்கும் இணையும் மூலையே ஆகும். இதனை அக்னி மூலை என்று சொல்வார்கள். ஒரு வீட்டின் அக்னி ஆற்றலாக மாறி மற்ற பகுதிகளுக்கு பயனைத் தரும் மூலையும் இதுவே. இதனை ஆக்கினேயம் என்றும் சொல்வார்கள். இது நம் வீட்டின் வயிற்று பகுதி ஆகும். 90*-லிருந்து 180*-வரை உள்ளது அக்னி எனப்படும் தென்கிழக்கு திசை ஆகும்.
