தமிழகத்தின் தெற்கு பகுதியில் அமாவாசையை நல்ல நாளாக பலரும் கருதுவது கிடையாது; காரணம் அன்று முன்னோர்களுக்காக தர்ப்பணம் கொடுக்கிறோம், தர்ப்பணம் கொடுக்கும் நாளில் சுபகாரியங்களை செய்யக்கூடாது என்பது அவர்களது எண்ணம்.
வடக்கு பகுதியில் இப்படி யாரும் கருதுவது கிடையாது. நிறைந்த அமாவாசையில் கடை திறந்திருக்கிறேன், புதிய வண்டி வாங்கி இருக்கிறேன், நிலம் பத்திரம் செய்திருக்கிறேன் என்று கூறுபவர்களை நிறைய பார்க்கலாம்.
ஆனால் பொதுவாக அமாவாசையை நல்ல நாள் என்று பலரும் ஏற்றுக்கொள்வதில்லை. சரி அமாவாசை நல்ல நாளா? தீய நாளா? என்ற சந்தேகம் பலருக்கும் உண்டு.

பிதுர் தேவதைகள் என்ற முன்னோர்களை வழிபட்டு அவர்களுக்கு மரியாதை செய்து அமாவாசை தினத்தில் புதிய காரியங்களை துவங்கினால் நிச்சயம் நல்லதே நடக்கும் அன்று நற்காரியங்களை செய்வதனால் தீங்கு ஏற்படாது. முன்னோர்கள் பூமிக்கு வரும் தினம் என்பதனால் அது நல்லநாளே.
